Land Escapes
I turn to the natural world not only for inner peace and harmony, but also when I need to absorb energy. I call these paintings « Land Escapes” because I “flee” entirely into my imagination, itself nourished from visual and sensorial experiences in the many countries I have lived in or visited.
In his article published in Le Temps, 17 November 2006, after visiting my exhibition in Berlin at Galerie Bremer, the journalist Yves Petignat described my work as “imaginary landscapes, utopias or oasis, recomposed from snippets of life and memory flashes…it is her own story, her African childhood in Zimbabwe and the roar of the Victoria Falls, the heat of the desert with its red and ochre sand, or the regenerating force of Hawaiian waves. Landscapes from where the Chinese inspiration, architecture of the painting, calligraphy of the trees, is not absent”.
